What is copywriting, and why do you need it?

We were recently on a client call when we got onto the subject of copywriting. You know what they said?

‘Copywriters work magic.’

And honestly, it’s so true.

Because copywriting is part of your entire online (and offline, of course!) presence.

Whether you’re writing your website content, social media scripts, email marketing, sales copy, or anything else, it’s crucial that it’s *chefs kiss*.

It's shocking when people don’t recognise the value of a great writer.

(Which by the way, ChatGPT is not a great writer, but it’s a good assistant)

But firstly, what the heck is copywriting (or content writing)?

A copywriter works on anything related to the written word within your marketing.

But the thing is, writing only makes up around 30% of the actual role.

Because they are also experts at understanding people.

After all, if you don’t understand people, you can’t find the right words to connect with them. That's why we return to storytelling.

Remember that story you connected with as a kid? Or even as an adult?

That’s because it felt relatable and inspiring.

Our founder, Margaret, has always really connected with Mulan.

Why? Because she didn’t need a man for her worth. She chose to have a man in her life. As a little girl surrounded by princesses desperate to find their prince, that really connected with her.

And that *moment of connection* is often exactly what is missing from your brand personality.

Don’t believe us?

According to Nutcracker, If people love a brand story, 55% are more likely to buy the product in future, 44% will share the story, and 15% will buy the product immediately.

So, with stats like that, it’s time to get the ball rolling with these three storytelling tips.

  1. Avoid the blank page: Storytelling doesn’t come naturally to everybody, but as a sustainable business, we can guarantee you have a story to tell. Kick things off with a brainstorming session. Consider what made you start your business, who you want to help, what parts of your personal story will be a means for connection, etc.
  2. We have five senses for a reason. Ignite them! Think about how you can set the scene. With so much of the world being online, it’s difficult to ignite a genuine feeling, but using the proper technique is pretty magic.
  3. Consider your characters. There are more means for connection than just you and your story. Share customer stories and introduce your staff. People connect with people; the more you share, the more relatable you will become.

So, what do you say? Are you ready to begin telling your story to the world?

Well, we have just the resource for you.

Our Sustainable Storytelling Blueprint has changed the game for brands all over the world.
